We protest because we have to speak out in any way we can against injustice, and to create community with those who feel the same and share our hope for freedom and solidarity with the Palestinian people and an end to the genocide. I share with my daughter what is happening in Gaza and we pray together for the Palestinians every night, that all living beings be protected there and for their freedom. She knows they are hurting and she wanted to make her signs and join us for a protest. She knows that when any living being is hurt or hurting, we have to stand up for them, especially when she sees that children just like her are suffering.
You may be scrolling through all the posts and reports from the ground and feel despair. I know I’ve cried every single day since watching the footage. Seeing a genocide and ethnic cleansing happen in real time and with my U.S. tax dollars funding it.
Currently I’m trying to be actionable and doing what I think will help in any little form. Don’t be afraid to speak up when that’s exactly what people in Gaza are asking us to do. Contact representatives for a ceasefire (if you’re in the U.S., text CEASEFIRE to 51905), learn about the history and the years of occupation/oppression and apartheid, share resources, protest, donate.

Vegan Peshawari chapli kababs! These are a delicacy I grew up having and was feeling nostalgic for! I originally posted this in 2021, but a few folks recently told me they tried it and loved it and I wanted to share again for those who may have missed it! Chapli kababs are minced meat patties that originated in Peshawar, Pakistan. The name chapli is said to be derived from chappal, the local word for sandals, because it’s supposed to be made thin like the sole of a sandal and about the same size of the chappal sole as well!
Just completely vegan!! Even if it doesn’t look like it 🙃 You can use either impossible burger meat or Beyond burger beef as the meat substitute. Or soy mince if you don’t have those available (you can combine tofu/walnuts/mushrooms/spices in food processor to make your own vegan mince)
We ended up deep frying the kababs to keep with how they’re traditionally made, and it resulted in so much deliciousness! A meat-eating friend honestly could not tell the difference!
The traditional Pakistani way it to also press a tomato into them right before frying, and it really brought the authentic look and taste!
Recipe below!
Ingredients (makes 6 kababs):
1 pack/pound of vegan minced meat (Beyond beef or impossible burger - impossible tastes a bit better FYI)
1/2 onion chopped
1 tbsp cilantro chopped
1 green chili chopped
1-2 tomatoes sliced
1 tsp red pepper flakes
1 tbsp or more coriander seeds
3/4 tsp turmeric
1 tsp allspice
1/2 tsp cumin
2.5 tbsp besan
1 tsp anar dana (crushed pomegranate seed)
1 vegan egg (flax egg) or 2 tbsp just egg
3/4 tsp salt or to taste
Method:
Mix all ingredients until smooth (excluding chopped tomato). Form into patties, press sliced tomato on top and deep fry or pan fry.
Your Chapli kababs are ready! Let me know if you try it!

My Ode to Pakistani Mangoes! On a recent trip to Canada I became obsessed with the incredibly delicious Pakistani mango. It had been a very long time since I’d had one (from my childhood!) since my subsequent trips to Pakistan were always NOT during mango season! Toronto has plenty of them, while the U.S. is caught up in logistical issues and aren’t able to easily import them. I always hear that they are available locally in Georgia, but every time I try to call to get them, I’m always told “call back tomorrow” LOL. Knowing all this, my partner and I took full advantage of the easy access to Pakistani mangoes in Toronto and went all in. We tried Chaunsa, Sindhri, and Anwar Ratol. Anwar Ratol stood out to us the most because of its strong fragrance and unique flavor. Totally out of this world! This video just captures a few of my feelings about the experience!

That multitasking mom life! My baby is now more than three months old, and multitasking is how I get stuff done most of the time! So I cook, eat, and clean all while wearing baby. Sometimes the food falls on him, but usually he doesn’t notice lol. Baby wearing really is a game changer and really helps busy moms like myself! And when he falls asleep, is when I really celebrate! 👌🏽🎉🥳
So far, everything has been going really well with Zain! He sleeps great, and is a super happy and healthy vegan baby 🧿 Right now he’s exclusively breastfed, and soon he’ll be starting to eat solids! I’ll share tips on that too!
In this picture I’m pan frying up an onion - the start to many a great dish!
What are your favorite hacks to get the most done with a new baby?

Looking for a good side for Memorial Day weekend? What’s better than bhutta?! One of my favorite street foods in Pakistan has always been the bhutta, or corn. You can get the corn either boiled or dry roasted in a sand/salt mixture and usually served in the husks spiced up with salt/red pepper and a splash of lemon…chef’s kiss! 🤌🏽🤌🏽
I actually prefer to have roasted/charred ones but I made it two popular ways - boiled and charred. The fun part is applying the spices from the lemon slice - make sure you squeeze the lemon as you’re applying the spices! Some also like to add chaat masala and kaala namak (black salt), so adjust according to your spice preferences. I’m actually a big fan of the OG version of just salt and red pepper. Can’t go wrong! How do you like your bhutta? Lemme know in the comments!

Ramadan is a holy month of fasting, introspection and prayer for Muslims. And is a time for increased community engagement, as Muslims come together for Iftari, or the breaking of their fasts, and share meals with one another.
Ramadan is coming to a close soon, and we’ve been busy with our new baby, but we were able to host an Iftar for our friends and family and of course we did an all vegan Iftar! We didn’t share that everything was vegan until after we ate, and everyone was surprised and some couldn’t believe it! It goes to show that you don’t have to sacrifice flavor and traditional foods to ensure that you eat with empathy by sparing animals from ending up on your plate.
Below is a list of our menu for this Iftar. Let me know which recipe you’d want me to share and are there any traditional Iftar foods that you would like to try veganized let me know in the comments!
Jalebi (deep fried sweet snack)
Fruit chaat (fruit mixed with juice and chaat masala)
Samosas
Pakoras
Dahi baray (vegan yogurt with lentil dumplings)
Veggie chow mein noodles
Seitan chkn korma (vegan chicken korma)
Aloo (potato) kababs
Keema piaz (vegan ground beef with onions)
Channay (chickpea dish)
Trifle
Roohafza (rose syrup infused drink)

Today is my birthday but my greatest present came a little early last week! Meet our newest family member - born on international women’s day! I had this onesie from when Z was a baby and couldn’t wait to have the new kiddo wear it too and how appropriate! Today is also Zarine’s bday so it was a big Pisces party! I’ll likely take a bit of a break from posting since I’m pretty busy with newborn activities but will be back sometime soon! #radicalveganfeministagenda
